HTML 5

HTML5 is the new technology making the 'web platform' more powerful in a number of different areas. For example, HTML5 content works on iPhones and iPads. At St. Mary's Menston we are moving our website over to HTML5 and already 100% do not use outdated technology such as Adobe Flash which drains battery life, does not work on iOS (Apple devices) or Microsoft Windows 8 'modern mode'.
This site has been tested on iPhone, iPad (iOS 6), Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and 10, Google Android.
Plugins
Some of the content on our requires that a small program, known as a 'plugin', is installed on your machine:
PDF - Many of our documents are provided in PDF format. A reason for this is that it makes the documents easy to view and print out. If you need to add support for opening PDF files, you can download and install the
Acrobat Reader software from Adobe.
Printing pages
On certain websites, printing web pages can be a problem. Often the amount of information on the screen does not fit the A4 paper format of your printer, meaning that information can be lost.Web browsers provide a print function, trying to automatically adjusting the size of the web page to fit on A4 paper.
Whilst we have tested that printing out pages on our website works well, many of our web pages have the option of downloading the content as a Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF document that will print out easily with the correct formatting.
