Our ICT Vision underpins our commitment to ensuring a learning environment fit for the 21st Century that both engages and challenges our students. We are well placed for the transition from traditional computers to mobile devices (such as iPad)."

The latest ICT available at St. Mary's:
  • We have over 500 school computers, including Apple Macs in Music.
  • Every computer in school has Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010, Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop) CS5
  • Every classroom has a 'Smartboard' Interactive Whiteboard
  • Our superfast fiber-optic Internet connection is uncontended 100Mb/second, just for us
  • Our users only have to log on once to access everything due to our 'Single sign-on' system
  • We have department sets of iPad mini as well as iPod touches that pupils use everyday.
  • Visualisers in many classrooms
  • Cameras for pupil use in many departments
  • A3 colour laser 'double sided' photocopiers available to all staff and students

Every pupil has:
  • An @stmarysmenston.org email address
  • A minimum file storage space of
        • ​0.5GB on our network for Y7-Y11 pupils
        • ​​1.0GB on our network for Y12 and Y13. 
  • Up to a 25GB Microsoft Skydrive to store files 'in the cloud'.

  • Ensure safe and responsible use of technology both within and beyond the classroom

  • Report any unsafe or suspicious use of technology within or outside of school
  • Think about your own choice of technology to present and support your learning.  Understand the skills that help you to learn effectively and make progress.

Tips for success:
  • Peer assessment and feedback opportunities through using virtual classrooms
  • Virtual classrooms can help you to see your targets and track progression towards them
  • Wikis, blogging and online resources can help you to self-assess and understand how to make progress

Technology will guide and support you to reach your full potential and stretch and challenge your understanding

  • Personalised learning environments with resources appropriate for your learning 
  • Follow any pathways and links to stretch and challenge you
  • Find resources, past papers and mark schemes to apply and consolidate learning 
  • Use online storage to drop off and collect work 
  • Organise your time through checking dates of assignments set by teachers

Technology will support you to learn from each other, share new ideas and ensure that you know and understand what you are learning

ICT Mark
The national standard for excellent use of Information Communication Technology across all aspects of school life.
 
In 2011 St. Mary's was awarded the ICON External-Link-13PX.png ICT Mark​ in recognition of the innovative, safe and integral use of technology used to support and enhance the teaching and learning experience of our pupils. The award recognises schools who have reached a high standard of e-maturity and lead the way in using this to raise standards, build strong links with the school community and inspire pupils to be confident in their use of IT.
