St. Mary's Menston Catholic Voluntary Academy now educates 1,200 pupils in three main teaching blocks: Morse, Clitherow and the Hume building. Although Menston is in the City of Bradford metropolitan district the school is in the Guiseley and Rawdon ward of the City of Leeds metropolitan district.
The pupils work alongside over 80 teachers supported by learning assistants, administrative, technical and maintenance staff and a school chaplain.
By A World Class Catholic Education we mean that we want to be a school that is seen as outstanding by the criteria set by outside agencies, and also by criteria which are fundamental to our values and beliefs. We will not compromise these
values which are rooted in our Catholic nature.
It is our hope that pupils who pass through our care leave the school ready and willing to be fine examples of the Christian values, which form the solid foundation for St. Mary's.
St. Mary’s aims to:
Teach the beliefs, doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic religion
Instil respect for moral values and tolerance of other religions, races and cultures
Give the satisfaction of achievement to all pupils and develop a sense of vocation
Encourage good habits of work, appearance and healthy living
Support each pupil to ensure their academic, social and spiritual development
Promote community cohesion within and beyond the school
"The task of a teacher is not simply to impart information or to provide training in skills intended to deliver some economic benefit to society; education is not and must never be considered as purely utilitarian. It is about forming the human person, equipping him or her to live life to the full – in short it is about imparting wisdom."
Pope Benedict XVI
